Fitness Classes - OSF Center for Health, 5510 East State

Participants purchase a “punch card” that can be used to attend any 12 class sessions. The card expires one year from the date of purchase. The cost is $48 for OSF Health Fitness members and $60 for non-members. Please note that participants who are not OSF Health Fitness members must provide a completed physician’s authorization form in order to participate in the classes.

OSF Saint Anthony Employee Craft Bazaar
7 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Friday, November 9 – Ambulatory Care Conference Rooms.
All are welcome to attend the Craft Bazaar. Christmas items, baby clothes, toys, crocheted gifts—many unique and hand-made items will be available. While you’re at the Craft Bazaar, remember to visit the new Java City Coffee Bar and Gift Shop with its unique, beautiful merchandise.

Center for Health Fitness
The OSF Saint Anthony Center for Health Fitness offers several fitness classes for seniors as well as a fitness center with spacious exercise areas, AirDynes, stationary bikes, stairmasters, treadmills, Nautilus and other equipment.
Members can also make appointments with personal trainers, all of whom are degreed and certified exercise physiologists, to help meet individual needs and goals. Call 815-395-4505 for information.

The 10 Wednesday
sessions include information on resting metabolic rate, exercise
at home, fats, proteins and carbohydrates, reading labels, vitamins
and supplements, dining out, menus, recipes, grocery shopping and
wellness for life. Individual session with a registered dietitian
included. Fee: $100 for OSF Health Fitness members and $150 for
non-members. The fee includes unlimited use of the fitness
center. Two people (“buddies”) registering together
receive a $10 discount. Buddies do not need to attend the same

Woman to Woman Breast Cancer Support Group

The informal meetings offer speakers as well as topics for discussion chosen by the participants. The meetings provide a safe place for breast cancer patients "to let their hair down" and to share experiences as well as camaraderie. Registration is not required. Breast Cancer Risk Reduction Class
Thursdays, November 8 and December 13 -- 9:30 am to 10:30 am -- Center for Cancer Care Library
The class is designed for women who have not been diagnosed with breast cancer but may have a moderate to high risk for developing the disease. Risk factors include having a family history of breast or ovarian cancer, carrying flawed versions of certain genes or being diagnosed with precancerous breast changes. Women concerned about their chance of developing hereditary breast cancer can use the “Pedigree Assessment Tool” (PAT) that Dr. Kent Hoskins, OSF Saint Anthony medical oncologist, and his colleagues developed for identifying women at high risk for hereditary breast cancer syndrome. Stepping Forward Cancer Support GroupMeetings

This is a free support group for cancer patients, their families and friends. Support group meetings are informal and allow participants to share their concerns and experiences. Hope
This group was created for those who have suffered a recent loss. Space is limited,
and reservations by calling required. New Hope is a free support group for the
recently bereaved, which meets for six-week sessions two times a year. Call 815-395-5358

Rockford
Ostomy Association Support Group
This group generally meets
on the third Monday of the month (except during the summer). Ostomy
patients, families,
friends and healthcare professionals are invited to attend the
free meetings. Meetings will resume in September 2007.

Heartsaver First Aid with CPR
The Department of Children and Family Services recognizes this course for Day
Care Providers.
This course is designed to teach CPR, relief of an obstructed airway, and first
aid principles and responses to medical and injury emergencies to all lay rescuers,
particularly those who are expected to respond to emergencies in the workplace
and who are required to obtain a course completion card – a credential – documenting
completion of a CPR course. This is an 8-hour course that is divided into two
4-hour evenings. Part 1 covers the CPR and choking sequences for adult, child
and infant. Part 2 covers the First Aid components. Course fees include the cost
of required course material. The cost is $50 for Part 1 CPR & Part 2 First
Aid; $30 for Part 1 CPR (only); and $30 for Part 2 First Aid (only). A registration

Instructor Courses for BLS, ACLS, and PALS
The purpose of an instructor curse is to develop proficiency in teaching
the provider course. To become an instructor in any of the three disciplines,
a person must possess a firm working knowledge of the material. They must be
current in the discipline for which they wish to become an instructor and they
must be recommended as having instructor potential by the course director of
their most recent provider course. An instructor is expected to demonstrate in-depth
factual knowledge of basic and advanced cardiac and emergency care for the various
age groups. They must be able to clearly define the program objectives to the
students and evaluate the students’ progress toward these objectives. Therefore,
essential components of all the AHA instructor courses include principles of
adult learning, the use of interactive teaching strategies, and the ability to
sequence instruction and evaluate progress. For further information regarding

(PALS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider Course
The
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course includes
both certification and renewal portions. Fees: $110 for
certification; $90 for renewal.

Healthcare Provider Renewal and ACLS (Advanced

When you join the OSF Saint Anthony Center for Health Fitness,
5510 East State Street, you will receive an individualized evaluation
for a fitness program that meets your particular needs and goals.
You will also receive a one-on-one introduction to the fitness
equipment, including AirDynes, stationary bikes, ellipticals, stairmasters,
treadmills and other equipment.
If
you wish, you can have a personal trainer on
an ongoing basis, either as part of a group or
as
an individual. Our OSF certified personal trainers
and exercise
physiologists have dual credentials, ensuring that your needs are met in
a safe manner. Additional programs at the OSF
Center for Health
include Occupational Rehabilitation Services
and the Center for Sports Medicine, which offers
the strength and
conditioning program known as "The Edge."
Outpatient
programs include Physical Therapy, Occupational
Therapy, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Lymphedema
Management, and the Pulmonary Rehabilitation program.

Programs
for Parents-to-Be and Families

At the Center for Life,
we offer several programs to help prepare you and the rest of your
family for the birth of your baby. These classes and events are
great ways to meet other parents-to-be and their families.

Baby Express
The content of the Preparation for Parenthood Class is condensed into this one-day Saturday class (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Topics include infant and toddler CPR. Other topics include relaxation, breathing and labor support skills, stages of labor, alternatives for pain control and the birth process. Couples should wear comfortable clothing to class and bring two bed pillows. Class size is limited and registration is required. Fee: $75 per couple.
Preparation for Parenthood Baby 101 Classes
Four sessions. New! Baby Expressions!, a presentation by the Rockford College Music Academy, is now included in the sessions as a method for parents to bond with their unborn child. Breastfeeding and infant/child CPR instruction are included in the fees. Fee: $35 if the baby is delivered at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center; $60 if the baby is not delivered at OSF Saint Anthony.

Sibling Class and Tours
This program helps prepare children age three to 10 for a new baby's arrival and to reassure them that they are special. Parents are asked to join as their children learn how to diaper, hold, and burp a baby. Class also includes a tour of the Center for Life as well as valuable suggestions for parents on how to ease the child's adjustment to a new baby. For children ages 3 to 10. Fee: $5 per family. Prenatal Refresher Class for Repeat Parents
Meets from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday every other month. It is designed for those who have previously given birth. This one-session refresher class includes breathing and relaxation techniques and information on delivery to help parents prepare for the birth of another child. Fee: $25 per couple. Pre-registration is required. Call 815-227-2695.
Breastfeeding Class
Mothers who are breastfeeding their babies can attend a free Breastfeeding Class
on the third Monday of every month. Fathers are welcome to attend. The breastfeeding
classes are included in the "Baby 101" Preparation for Parenthood classes.
Taught by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, the classes

Infant/Toddler
CPR
This course is for parents, babysitters, childcare providers
and others who have contact with children. Taught by American
Heart Association instructors, the class is included in the "Baby 101" Prenatal
Classes. Class size is limited. The fee is $12.50 per person.

Clinic
OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center offers the free Post-Partum Clinic
for new mothers and their babies who are born at the OSF Saint
