Rockford has a well-earned reputation for being a great place
to work, play, shop, go to school and enjoy the arts. The
second largest city in Illinois, population 150,000, Rockford
has a diverse economic base that includes growing technology,
manufacturing, healthcare, banking and service companies.
Families in Rockford enjoy 185 neighborhood parks covering
nearly 4,400 acres. In addition, the beautiful 162-acre Rock
Cut State Park is located on the northeast edge of the city.
Visitors can go sailing, swimming, picnicking, camping, and
take long walks on its many hiking trails. Rockford is known
throughout the region for its 10 excellent public golf courses.
OSF Saint Anthony is located on East State Street, the center
of the city’s shopping and dining district. Scores
of national chain and locally owned stores offer household

Rockford Public School District 205 strives for excellence
in all aspects of the education process. One result is
almost 75 percent of public high school graduates continue
their schooling
in some form of higher education. Rockford School District
serves more than 26,500 students attending 39 elementary
schools, four middle schools, and four high schools.
The district has several magnet schools serving elementary
school students. Rockford Science and Technology Academy,
Maria Montessori Magnet School, Lewis Lemon Global Studies
Academy,
Washington Communication Academy Magnet, and Ellis Elementary
School, which places strong emphasis on the visual and performing
arts. Several parochial education systems in the Rockford
area offer parents alternatives to public education. In addition,
there
are dozens of daycare and preschool centers available for
the children of working parents.
The arts are thriving in Rockford. The recently renovated Coronado
theatre is home to the Rockford Symphony Orchestra, popular
music acts, as well as touring productions of popular Broadway
shows. The MetroCentre is home to trade shows, as well as professional
basketball and hockey teams. In addition, The New American
Theater is nationally recognized as one of the finest regional
theatrical organizations in the nation.
